Some of you will have heard of The Crucible, the book Don and Graham Linscott wrote about the end of apartheid in South Africa.  Originally published in 1991, The Crucible puts the reader front-and-center during the tumultuous and unprecedented shift in human history: the end of apartheid in South Africa.

Copies of this book, which has been out of print for some time, are now available in…

Making the Satir Global Network Global

Greetings,

My name is Sharon Loeschen and I had the privilege of attending the Satir World Conference in Hong Kong in June. It was a wonderful experience of connecting and learning from people from all around the world. For example, it was my first time having the experience of really connecting with people from mainland China. and it was wonderful. I always come away from Satir meetings reaffirmed in the universality of our humanness and the joy of re-experiencing that.

I have…

I have just finished setting up a Twitter account just for the purpose: http://twitter.com/SatirNetwork/

If you are on twitter, just follow, and Satir Network will follow right back. If you are a genuine member that is, and not a spammer.

Send the Satir Ning Network account a message with the role of your account: Satir Institute, Other organisation, consultant, psychologist, ... and I will add you to the lists I created.

Conference in Hong Kong this year

I am wondering if anyone on this network is planning to be in Hong Kong for the conference in June? I will be there - as will 4 other Satir Global board members. We are looking forward to meeting you!

As I watch the plans evolving for the conference I am excited by what is being put together. Also, having not been to China - I am looking forward to spending some time in this amazing country whose people have given so many gifts to the world and continues to grow.

quotation search

Years ago I copied a quote from Virginia Satir but did not get the source. Now I am using the statement in an article and the publisher wants a citation. Soon. Fair enough, but....

The quote: "physicists and 'the good theologians' are in the same ballpark when speaking about life force."

If anyone recognizes this and could point me to a book or article that would be so welcome.

Thanks.

Satir words?? A misterious quote...

Dear friends at Satir-ning,

thanks to all at SGN, who helped me in searching

Satir stuff for my new Italian book on Satir modeling and Counseling.

The book is finished, by now...but I have the last search about

a quote ascribed to "nlpers", but I do think is from Virginia.

The quote is:

"If a person is in front an option is disperate;

if he/she have two options, he/she is in front a dilemma; if the person has

at least three options he/she is…

Back from China where Satir is flourishing!

Dear Satir Friends,

I returned last week from a 3 week trip to China where I taught Parenting and the Satir Model in Shenzhen, Beijing, and Shanghai and a new workshop, "Intimacy in Your Marriage through the Satir Model" in Beijing. The couples workshop was a great success, very exciting. John Banmen is building a team of 10 trainers from the West to help develop a solid system of Satir training for professionals and individuals interested in personal growth. We are the "Dream… Continue

Satir training in the People's Republic of China

Hi all,

I recently returned from PRC, having taught two parenting workshops and one training for trainers workshop to enthusiastic and grateful crowds. The Chinese people are loving the Model and so quick to incorporate it into their lives at home and at work. John Banmen has laid the groundwork for us, training professionals to become therapists in the Satir Model. Angie Dairou and Steve Buckbee are also offering trainings to organizations, companies, and police officers. Imagine China… Continue

Movies that inspire

Today my husband, Robert, said - "You've got to see this movie" The movie the Freedom Writers, which came out in 2008. Wow! The story of a woman, Erin Gruwell, and her students, in Long Beach, California and how they grow together , develop respect and change their lives - and today they continue that together in a foundation that passes that experience on to others.

Positive Psychology

I watched a few TED sessions - Technology, Entertainment, Design: "Ideas worth spreading".

Lots of food 4 thought here. Martin Seligman, associated with Positive Psychology and a professor in nearby University of Pennsylvania is one of the sessions.

I am not a psychologist, but it seems to me that there is synergy between Satir's approach and Positive Psychology - the base assumption being an approach from optimism. "People are not broken".

Just bought several books:… Continue

A Teaser

I have been following the life and thought of Virginia Satir for some years now.

Although I do much personal and family oriented consultation I spend much of my time and energy in business and organizational consulting.

I have always been amazed by the great potential in Virginia's ideas and have been developing, in my head and in my work, applications of the Satir Model in organizational and business consultation.

I have found that in the last few years, more and more business… Continue
