Satir Global Network

Where the Satir Community Connects.

I watched a few TED sessions - Technology, Entertainment, Design: "Ideas worth spreading".
Lots of food 4 thought here. Martin Seligman, associated with Positive Psychology and a professor in nearby University of Pennsylvania is one of the sessions.

I am not a psychologist, but it seems to me that there is synergy between Satir's approach and Positive Psychology - the base assumption being an approach from optimism. "People are not broken".

Just bought several books: Learned Optimism (M. Seligman); A Primer in Postive Psychology (Christopher Peterson); Good Business (Mihaly Csikszentmihallyi). Will let you know what "AhHas" I discover and whether there seems to be a connection.

I am wondering what sort of exposure and experience people on this network have with this "camp" of psychology.
Anyone hear about this? Any synergy with this?

Hi Becky
I am just using this and am appalled at the typos in my last message to you, sorry I hit send before I checked it. But about Positive Psychology, yes there are huge synergies. I have joined the Positive Psychology Association, I heard Marty Seligman last year and everything he said resonated with me. I am a huge fan and use many of his ideas in my private practice. Also within my organisational practice. If you go to his authentichappiness site you find lots of intersting stuff including questionnaires. I often have clients do his VIA Strengths and find that so useful especially when we are doing career plnaning, work on self esteem, and values work. Have fun Bronwyn

Bronwyn, Please! I never pay attention to typos and spelling (trust me - I make quite a number myself!) - only the intent of the message. You come through loud and clear.

I just bought a few books about positive psychology and hope to get more background.

How interesting that you have used some of the vehicles - I would love to hear more. How have you specifically used he VIA strengths? Would be fun to start a sort of "tips" or Ideas blog. Look forward to hearing more when you have time. Cheers, Becky
